The Mountain House in Mist, aptly named for its location and ethereal aesthetic, was developed by a local tourism real estate company. The aim was to revitalize the village, which was previously inhabited only by a few elderly residents. The introduction of this innovative book house has indeed changed the landscape, attracting a steady stream of visitors and bringing life back to the mountains.
What sets this design apart is its unique blend of old and new. Lin Chen has masterfully incorporated traditional materials into a modern design, transforming the roof and using translucent polycarbonate boards on the façade. During the day, the house is bathed in a soft, translucent light, creating a serene atmosphere for reading and relaxation. At night, the building becomes a visual centerpiece, as the light from within seeps out into the surrounding area.
The Mountain House in Mist is not just a space for reading; it's a sanctuary designed to attract young people and children back to the mountains. The tranquil environment and the allure of the mountains make it an ideal spot for those seeking a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The project was completed between 2016 and 2018 by Shulin Architectural Design, under the guidance of Chen Lin. The structure is a blend of steel and wood, with imported pine and terrazzo among the building materials used. The building covers an area of 156 square meters and has become a significant landmark in the village.
The Mountain House in Mist has been recognized for its innovative design and positive impact on the community. It was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. This award is a testament to Lin Chen's ability to create a design that not only embodies extraordinary excellence but also significantly impacts the world with its desirable characteristics.
